Landscape Design

I see my my role as a Designer of landscapes, as being a pathway to help bring nature, wildlife and beauty into our personal outdoor living spaces, by Helping the client to realize their dreams both visually and practically.  the garden becomes a place that invites you in, to relax, play, and be apart of its' seasonal transitions.  I love to incorporate native plants with hardy PERENNIALS, encouraging backyard HABITAT sanctuaries  for both native wildlife and humans with year round interest and beauty. This is an example of a before and after project.
Landscape design services
This describes a design process based on a typical situation for most budget ranges. If the client’s design objectives are simple, or the site is small enough, it might be possible to reduce or eliminate some of these phases.

Payment schedule is based on phases completed which will be agreed to at the time of signing the contract.

Initial Consultation
After the initial complementary onsite consultation, both parties may agree that they would like to work with each other in co-creating a landscape design. The client may then choose to work with the designer on a consultation basis for simpler jobs or choose to have a design plan drawn for more multi-faceted landscape designs.

the Design Process

Phase 1 Program development
Identify client’s ideas and goals: In this phase the designer and client work together in consultation to explore the client’s ideas and goals. Once a          contract is signed, subsequent consultation will clarify concepts discussed in the first meeting and take the following steps, including:
  1.  Create an outdoor living space that reflects the client’s wishes, concerns, lifestyle, aesthetics and budget.
  2. Review favorite photos of design likes or dislikes.
  3. Talk about the overall feeling or style, the garden would evoke.
  4. Discuss types of plants to be incorporated in new design.

Site Measurement Drawing: The designer then measures and photographs the existing site, and makes a rough drawing with property lines and existing trees and plants, structures and house footprint. A detailed base map is then drawn from this information.

Site Analysis: The designer notes existing architectural elements of house and yard, looks at shade and sun patterns, drainage issues, noise or privacy concerns identifying plant material to be used/relocated or removed.

Phase 2 Rough Idea Sketch and Client Review
Using the base map and information gathered from the client and the onsite analysis, the designer drafts one or more ideas that express the overall look of the new landscape design, to be reviewed by the client. This information will be used to create the final concept design.

Phase 3 Conceptual Plan & Working Drawings
Conceptual Plan: Determine final location for all design elements including fences, patios, arbors, walkways, dining areas, work areas, outdoor kitchens, planting beds with trees and shrubs.  This will show the overall look and style of the garden design and can be used when talking with contractors. This Master Plan will be illustrated in a top plan view with a scale drawing.

Working Drawings: Detailed, in scale, working drawings are provided which show architectural elements with suggested materials, and a plant list with common and botanical names, sizes and quantities. An illustrated perspective color drawing can be requested.

Phase 4 Installation Observer: (Optional)
The designer may meet with the contractor to help visualize the concept and resolve questions of layout and detail or changes.  Designer will be available to visit the site during construction for consultations, clarifying the client’s vision and design objectives. The designer can choose or assist the client when plants are chosen at the nursery and be present for final planting by contractors. If present for installation, the designer will be in an observer role to help with aesthetic choices, rather than a supervisory role.

Robyn Bluemmel, BlueBug Arts is the designer and will charge $50 per hour for the above services.
